I was walking to the fields in my village...before I go any further, I must tell you about my village because it plays a crucial role in all my work, it is my biggest source of inspiration, the place where I feel at one with nature and most importantly the place that keeps me grounded. Whenever I get bored or carried away with the humdrum of Delhi's maniacal pace, it gives me a comforting tranquility. Its a little hamlet off the Mathura - Agra highway, 4 hours away from Delhi.
Coming back to the point, I was walking towards the fields one day when I saw millions of little weeds spring forth from the dry dusty soil, their finely dissected leaves all green and lush despite the spell of dry weather. A closer look told me (the wannabe botany student...who can't identify anything beyond a mango tree) the weed was "bhang" or Cannabis. The wonder plant that gave drugs like marihuana/charas/ganja and ofcourse hemp. The leaves caught my fancy and I picked a few to press in my diary....I have a fascination for collecting odd - shaped leaves and colourful flowers and pressing them.
Steering myself back to the point once again, I found these leaves in my diary a few days ago and they looked so pretty pressed that I decided to include them in my cards. And so this looooong story was just to lead you to the fact that you can integrate your quilling work with other forms and create new stuff.
Do let me know of other pretty leaves and flowers that can be pressed.(Oh yes ferns are a special favourite and I get them from Mussoorie..another place I love..but thats another story )
Take care
